Sanibel Lighthouse & Fishing Pier
The island's oldest landmark, at the end of your beach walk
Standing since 1884, the iron skeleton tower at Point Ybel once guided cattle ships between Punta Rassa and Cuba — and it still works as an active navigation aid today. Lighthouse Beach Park wraps around it: a quiet point where the Gulf meets San Carlos Bay, with a fishing pier, shady picnic tables, and some of the east end's best shelling.
Go at sunrise, when the pier belongs to the pelicans and a few patient anglers. Then loop back along the bay side and you'll have walked both of Sanibel's waters before breakfast.
